Law Affects Time Checks In Pendleton
A new state time check law, Senate bill No. 202, will go into effect about June 1 and end the practice of non negotiable time checks used by Pacific Coast Construction company and the Commercial National bank. The change requires all time checks to be negotiable and allows attorney fees in collection actions, plus enforcement to curb discounting wages. The White Star liner Suevic, with 400 aboard, is stranded on rocks off the Lizard Point and will be a total loss, though passengers and crew are saved.
