Albany reports indicate insurance officials are panicked by Andrew Hamilton's testimony to the legislative Insurance Investigation Committee. He denounced trustees of New York Life and asserted the duty to remove them, claiming past improprieties and threats to accountability.
In Caldwell the Western Federation of Miners attorneys moved to quash the indictment against Moyer Haywood and Flettbone for the Steunen murder. The prosecution asks for time to answer, and the case is continued until tomorrow morning. Moyer’s health report notes marked improvement.
Seventeen arrested in a gambling raid appeared before Judge Fite Gerald with six entering not guilty pleas and eleven admitting guilt. The Utah and California express bound for Denver collided with the Leadville local in a snowstorm near Florence. Fifty dead and hundreds injured as ten cars burned, many in forward sleepers. Cause cited as orders miscarried at a division point. Rescue trains rushed to Florence and Pueblo as managers oversaw recovery.
Fresno March 16 A large flood threat looms as Empire canal margins rise and workers rush to fortify embankments. Torrential hillside flow has begun to inundate river banks with portions of the county already flooded though no major damage reported yet. Kings River remains very high.

Newland presides in Echo district court. Officers believe Lewie may be a principal in the hold-up rather than a mere witness.
Prediction of heavy losses from sheep on the desert near Montpelier Idaho as the Lake Valley region records the heaviest snow in 20 years. Three feet fell and trains were blocked east and west. Sheep losses feared with late season snow risking floods as it melts.
