Tillman Loses Race for Senate Appropriations Chair
Washington March 15 Senator Benjamin R Tillman of South Carolina lost his bid for the chairmanship of the senate committee on appropriations. The steering and democratic committees completed last night named Senator Martin of Virginia to the appropriations post and Tillman to head the naval affairs committee. The changes mark a shift in methods guiding senate legislation and committee control as part of a progressive democratic reorganization begun last December and to be proposed for adoption by the senate today.
