Toulon reports a powder magazine blast aboard the armored battleship Tone causing massive casualties among a 700 man crew. The ship was anchored near the arsenal dock when the explosion, followed by torpedo mishaps, set fires and sent bodies and debris into the harbor.
In a March 12 incident in St. Louis, Patey Finyes was shot dead by Tess A Richardson, a bartender, after a quarrel over payment for sheinks. Richardson was arrested. Separately, Albert Nichols, a tenant, was shot and killed by Edward Court, owner of a restaurant. Court was arrested. The tragedy stems from a dispute over a ham sandwich payment.
Pennsylvania Railroad stockholders at Horticultural Hall approve a 100 million dollar stock increase and 100 million in new bonds. Tamberven in Convention, Jackson Mississippi March 12. The Miselatops Louisiana Retail Lumber Dealers association begins its annual convention in this city with over 200 dealers attending. President Tucker called the convention to order behind closed doors as the two day session opens to discuss trade matters of mutual interest.
Berlin March 12 Captain VYon bercken of the 20d infantry is reported killed in a duel with an unnamed drugelat. The incident details remain sparse as authorities note the duel ended with the captain's death.
