Anniversary of Tragedy of the Alamo in San Antonio
Seventy three years ago today three American frontier figures Crockett Travis and Bowie wrote their names in the annals of fame at the Alamo in San Antonio Texas. Santa Anna led an army of over six thousand to assault the makeshift fortress where a small garrison held out for five days. Crockett Bowie and Travis fought to the last with a handful of followers and one cannon. The final assault ended in massacre as the Texan defenders were slain and only noncombatants escaped. The Alamo became a lasting symbol in American history and lore.
