Police responded to a Cudahy residence disturbance where Jere Lillis was found bound and injured. Cudahy and Chauffeur Fully faced accusations as Lillis pleaded for mercy while a bystander intervened. Underwood placed Cudahy under arrest. bond posted and release followed after ambulance took Lillis to hospital.
Kansas City report says Jere F. Lillis, millionaire banker, was found bound and severely cut at his house in an alleged assault by John P. Cudahy, Chicago packer heir to Michael Cudahy. Cudahy arrested on disturbing the peace bond set at $100 and remains at large. Lillis critical, hospital bound.
Thomas Col ller Platt former U S senator from New York and long time Republican figure died at 45 West Eleventh Street apartment after chronic and acute Brights disease. He had a brief fainting spell before death and will be buried in Owego after funeral at the Presbyterian church.
Louis Klopech, editor of the Christian Herald, died this morning in New York. He was known worldwide for his philanthropic acts.
Farmers in Pendleton revive the general sales day plan from two years ago. The first sale is next Saturday at the fair pavilion with Col. Biffert of Walla Walla as auctioneer and a committee led by Dr. W. R. Campbell and W. W. Harrah. Items include stock and farm implements.
Secretary Dickinson orders mint protected and warns on strike disruption as 20 000 workers out. In Philadelphia a car carrying 20 passengers with police guard was dynamited. Occupants were thrown, many cut and bruised, no serious injuries reported. Police clashed with laborers, several shots fired, two leaders arrested.

Miss Haxel Howland of Pendleton and Ellensburg normal school died this morning at 9 90 after a weeks long illness with meningitis. Born in Pendleton in 1906 she spent much of her life in western Oregon before returning to Pendleton last year to finish high school. Survived by father N Howland two brothers Ralph and Ned and sister Rita with aunt Mrs Jane Wright expected to attend the funeral arrangements pending.
The agricultural department reports 78 percent of eggs set last year hatched and hen hatched chicks suffered 1028 percent mortality.

Dr H Whitney formerly of Holyoke Massachusetts says Pendleton is the best town in the state with brighter future prospects than any other. After visiting every major city and town he and Mrs Whitney chose Pendleton for permanent residence noting its business stability and a Main Street rivaling other booming districts. He began practicing medicine in 1904 in Massachusetts.
The Chicago Federation of Labor passed a resolution endorsing the sympathetic strike in Philadelphia and criticizing civic authorities. Samuel Gompers addressed the meeting in Chicago, condemning Philadelphia officials and supporting the strike.

Portland Maine March 7 The passenger steamship Manhattan caught fire in the harbor. All passengers were rescued and one sailor is missing. The vessel was completely destroyed with a loss of about sixty to eighty thousand dollars.
Survivors from the Wellington disaster reach Everett and Vancouver. At Rogers Pass, eight whites and twelve Japanese bodies are recovered while eight hundred men continue work and a rescue line expects the mine to be freed tonight. A mob incident nearby involved an attempted lynching of a railroad boss.
Seven injured survivors of the Wellington avalanche left Scenic destined for Everett. They traveled with guides after climbing down the trail from Wellington yesterday. Jeff Spere aged 20 son of Mr and Mrs J J Spere of Nye disappeared from this country eleven years ago while harvesting north of Pendleton. A Sacramento train incident killed him yesterday. remains to be sent to Pilot Rock for burial. A wandering life took him to Phoenix and Arizona earlier. a long-awaited letter arrived last week.
