Wool and the Tariff A Wool Grower Speaks
A letter to the East Oregonian editor argues the 1847 wool tariff failed to aid producers. It cites lower prices under tariff periods, reduced U.S. sheep numbers, and the need for foreign wool to feed domestic looms while duties raise costs. The piece critiques protection as decreasing wool prices and harming the industry.
