Umatilla County hens challenge world records in egg laying
Marching claims of egg production from Umatilla County are contrasted with New York and Oregon hens. Marcus Johnson of Glenville, N Y, reported 1009 eyes by 60 hens in February, while Mrs B F Williams of Milton Oregon with 45 Buff Rocks laid 960 eggs that month. She asserts winter laying records and seeks recognition against other varieties. The narrator ends with a proverb about rattled nerves and an empty kettle.
