A jury awarded Miss Hoch twelve thousand dollars with an assignment of a third of the verdict to her mother. The plaintiffs Coy Burnett and Oren Richards, attorneys for Miss Hoch, filed the assignment for record. A possible appeal by any defendant has not yet been determined.
Mise Grace Hoch a Pendleton high school student was awarded 712000 in damages after a May accident when a rack fell at The Peoples Warehouse injuring her. A jury found in favor of Hoch against four defendants with mixed initial offers. two jurors refused to approve the verdict while later talks on compromise collapsed.
Washington March 1 and March 3 report debates on the armed bill. Senator Btone questions Wilsons restraint, while officials indicate plans to arm ships soon after the senate bill passes. Navy orders may authorize immediate arming to deter attackers and protect merchant shipping.
