Western Pacific scheme grows from Huntington funds
San Francisco aviation rumors aside, a New York financier asserts that the Western Pacific railroad from San Francisco to Salt Lake City is being financed mainly by Mrs Collis P Huntington, with Henry K Huntington and E W Hawley and B F Yoakum among key backers. The plan envisions a full system to the Gulf of Mexico via Galveston, Fort Worth, Denver and connections to Chicago, with possible use of the Rio Grande Western route or a new line.

First Grant County newspaper details corrected
The Granite Gem corrects Joaquin Miller by naming R. H. Comer as the first Grant County newspaper publisher, not Miller. Dan Dimmick attests Comer published Canyon City papers on Captain Fearing’s press. Comer was editor and publisher, while Fearing owned the press. The Weckerlin brewery in New Orleans burned, causing substantial losses.
