The government began a campaign in 1908 and expanded in 1911. By 1912 the effort doubled the amount of poison used, targeting areas that were nearly exterminated that year as part of a large scale cleanup.

In San Francisco on June 30 President John Kirby Jr of Dayton Ohio and David Parry of Indianapolis former president rejected Mar tin Mulhall of Baltimore as a lobbyist for the National Manufacturers Association. They said they would cancel a planned Australia and New Zealand tour if the probe required their presence in Washington. They urged a formal investigation and Kirby said Mulhall was fired for unreliability. Since then Mulhall has pursued the association through persuasion and threats to regain employment.
President Wilson declared in a conference that the insidious lobby is out of business and will cease to embarrass the administration. He asserted the investigation will end and lobbying as a profession will have ceased to exist.
In Washington during June, lawmakers expect a House committee independent of the insidious lobby probe to investigate Mulhall charges. Chairman Henry of the rules committee favors the plan.
Washington June 30 reports an Oberst led Taft influenced bloc including Lodge of Massachusetts James Sherman Aldrich of Rhode Island and other prominent legislators. Congressman Shirley announced plans to demand a special investigation into charges against him.

After a three week visit in Portland Mayor W F Matlock arrived home yesterday. While in the metropolis he stayed at the home of his daughter Mrs Fred Laatz.
Roland Oliver, who recently opened an independent grain office on Court Street, returned yesterday from a business trip to Seattle Tacoma and Portland. He also spent a week in the mountains near Hood River.
The Pendleton Round-up band performed for patients at the eastern Oregon state hospital yesterday afternoon, delivering a lively concert that was thoroughly appreciated by those in attendance.
FR F Smitten files suit against William Swash and Mary Jane Swash minor to force partition of joint property. The 15 lots lie in Fristrate tracts. Raley & Raley represent the plaintiff. A party group from Freewater made a two hour Pendleton round trip by Apperson car.

Wiley Griffon, longtime Eugene resident and former street railway head, died last week in Eugene, telegraphic dispatches report.
A W Nye, pioneer resident of Pendleton and re elected president of the Umatilla county pioneer association, arrived back this morning from Portland where he had been at his wife’s bedside for weeks. Mrs Nye remains ill but improved, and doctors advised his return to Pendleton due to his own frail health.
Advance man Jarred of the Buffalo Bill Wild West show arrives with the first advertising car and secures use of Round-up stadium for August 2. He praises the stadium as perfectly suited to a wild west performance.
T C Taylor praises Pendleton as the kindest small city in the northwest after visits in Portland and meetings with residents from Washington Oregon and Idaho. Rev Nathan Evans presides over three weddings in one hour plus another ceremony at his church, Denise Chryst and Cecil Reed. Minnie Eck man, the confessed slayer of her daughter Frances whose body was found in a trunk at Ogden, says she has not eaten or slept since Saturday. She admits chloroforming her child and says she tried to do the same to herself but failed, and she probably will plead insanity.

Others like Leon Cohen G T LaDow and FE Livengood back the plan, while FE Murphy transitions from opposition to endorsement.
