Secretary Lane Cuts Building Charges On Irrigation Projects
Washington June 206 Special in view of the representations at the Water Users Associations conference and the drop in farm prices in 1912 Secretary of the Interior Lane issues a public notice reducing the last installment building charge to one third of the amount due but not less than zero cents per acre. Balance payments are deferred and added to the final water right application. Delinquents may pay operation and maintenance charges to defer cancellation until December 1 1913. Lane urges further congressional extension and emphasizes aiding farmers over land speculators while noting 2000000 acres irrigable and 650000 acres irrigated among reclaim lands and promising leniency to debtors in difficulty.
