Telegraph dispatch reports a great flood on the Mexican Central Railway line near Leon and Silas. At least fifteen hundred people perish and ten thousand are left penniless as Leon lies in ruins with thousands of bodies recovered. The note adds widespread suffering and interrupted service has been restored.
June 27 report from Poruraxnp states Frank Hoyt an 11 year old hoodlum struck J. W. Maitland of Vancouver on the head with a rock tied in a pocket handkerchief after Maitland refused fifteen cents. Hoyt was arrested and charged with assault with a dangerous weapon. A separate note details a Baltimore and Ohio train carrying Chicago Republican delegates colliding with a freight train near Chicago junction at forty miles per hour. The passenger train engineer was killed and several delegates injured.
Charles Sullivan, a carpenter, climbed Mt Michaels church steeple to measure height. He lost his hold near the top and fell about one hundred feet into the tin pool below, breaking through the roof and dying instantly. Hundreds witnessed the fatal fall.
Fire destroyed the hoisting works of the Delmont mine near here yesterday causing four men to perish in a drift. In another incident, Maud Raumister aged fifteen and Mrs. Margie Rows suffocated in a burning frame house. Congressional discussion turns to railroad forfeitures and Holman Bill changes to preemption homestead and timber laws while local notes report civic improvements and community plans.
