Stanfield Dike May Not Be Built At Stanfield Ore
Special Correspondence. Stanfield Ore June 26. Work by US Reclamation Service engineers testing depth to bed rock below town has ceased. Tests to 40 60 feet found no bed rock, 20 to 20 feet of volcanic soil and clay and gravel. Without bed rock, a concrete core dike along the west side of town would not be feasible. Local officials doubt feasibility of the dike to protect the reservoir area. Several local residents and officials are noted in the report including Mayor James M. Kyle and others visiting or traveling between Stanfield and Pendleton Portland and Echo.
