Front Street paving plan approved by Baker Cutty city council

June 26 report by City Engineer Sanberg estimates Front street from Auburn avenue to Church street at 20 174.60 for five blocks with intersections. Council accepts report and adopts a resolution to pave as per plans. If two thirds of frontage owners do not remonstrate within 20 days, paving will be secured. Freight rate change to affect minimum charges July 1

New freight rate set to take effect July 1 will alter minimum charge rules. Small shipments will have a minimum charge based on the class rate per 100 pounds. No shipment will be charged less than 25 cents. For mixed class small shipments two or more classes the top class minimum applies to the whole shipment. The Pendleton academy opened its summer normal with good attendance. Prof. J. W. Huff and Prof. Noordhoor of Pendleton high, Rev. W. A. Bleakney president, and Prof. L. L. Traver assist. Death of Stanislaus Hala at 14 from pneumonia

Stanislaus Hala aged 14, son of William Hall, died at noon yesterday from pneumonia after a five day illness. A student of the reservation school he belonged to the Indian band at the agency. Funeral services were held today with burial at the Catholic cemetery on the reservation.

New Train to Resume Between Pendleton and Walla Walla

Walla Walla reports that the Spokane branch passenger train last fall between Spokane and Walla Walla will resume August 1 and run through year end. The Walla Walla Pendleton mixed train will carry freight only during harvest, while both regular Spokane branch and mixed trains expect heavy patronage from Pendleton and Walla Walla travelers.

Sutherland named Pendleton water superintendent

William G. Sutherland was elected by the Pendleton water commission to be the citys new water superintendent and will assume duties immediately. His salary is fixed at 86 dollars per month as he prepares to learn office routines before a new postmaster arrives. Sutherland, a well known local, has lived in Pendleton 12 years and previously managed a wool baling plant.

Grand Clerk Heads to Denver for Woodcraft Funeral

J L Wright grand clerk of the Women of Woodcraft travels to Denver to attend the funeral of Mrs F A Falkenburg former grand guardian. Mrs Falkenburg, who long cared for her husband F A Falkenberg, died suddenly in Denver after years of poor health following his death. She was well known in Pendleton Woodcraft circles.

Two Men Drown at Celilo Falls in Swift River

Bear Killed by Sheepherder Near Black Mountain

A brown bear was killed by Hathaway, a sheepherder for Dan P. Smythe, about 15 miles southeast of Bingham Springs. He also shot seven coyotes in the past week.
