Tramps Roaming Oregon Rail Lines Draw Fire in Pendleton
Train crews on the O R and N main line report an influx of hoboes or Weary Willies, especially near Portland and Pasco. Brakemen describe clashes, train stoppages, and the risk to workers as tramps fight to stay aboard. Pendleton police credit enforcement and a former chain gang policy for making hobos scarce, though the issue may recur.
