At 9 o clock jurors were questioned to avoid bias in the case over Grover Martin accused in the May 1 hunting lodge death. Eighteen were examined, eight seated. others rejected for causes or preformed opinions. Names of accepted jurors Hampton Craig Morgan Bryant Rickowen Oliver Boysen and McCracken listed. A special venire of 16 was ordered for the next session. Two more jurors Marian Jack and Mr J Foster later selected.
Chicago June 19. Attorney General Stead leads an inquiry into Continental Financing Company amid allegations of a get rich quick scheme. The firm claims over 20 000 subscribers nationwide paying 58 to 5 per month, with only 34000 in unsecured notes found as assets to date.
Federal circles report the grand jury, meeting Wednesday, will vote on 33 indictments. Indictments expected against prominent packers and private car monopoles, with several connected individuals to be charged.
A receiver is appointed for the company with offices in the Reaper block. The firm advertised promising to return $1000 in 10 years on a 55 monthly deposit. The company claimed assets valued at $1,260,000.
