The Republican National Convention in Chicago adjourned after morning sessions marked by Will Hays and Senator Henry Cabot Lodge. Lodge denounced Wilson and his League of Nations, urging removal of Wilsonian governance while Bryan listened from the press stand.
The Pacific Power & Light Co. reports record light and power production in Pendleton in May as a worker walkout continues. Local manager Dr W Vincent says the strike is breaking down gradually nationwide with few local effects, noting fewer workers here and replacements taking posts. He cites attempts by some workers to influence hiring and the aim to include only union men, with no major local trouble and limited delays on new projects.
A sudden, heavy rainfall drenched wheat fields and summer ranges in Umatilla County, bringing over an inch of rain and easing drought conditions. Mac Hoke appointed secretary of the Cunningham Sheep and Land Company, newly purchased for over 500000 by Fred W. Falconer of Enterprises. Hoke will base in Pendleton arriving on the 28th. Mrs Julia Anne Gulliford, early pioneer of the city, died last night at St Anthony's hospital after a long illness. In her 87th year, she came to Umijatilla in 1462 and left a daughter Mrs J Amith of Portland, an adopted daughter Mr J Bing of Cambridge Idaho, and sons J Gulliferd of Portland W H Gulliford A V Gulliferd of Kehe J and Guiliford of Hermiston J EB Guiliford of Freewater. Funeral services set for tomorrow at 7 37 p m from Rapnet church with Rev J 4 Com officiating.
Mrs Mary Fillambeth Johnson Ferree aged about 80 died last night in Pendleton from a stroke of apoplexy. Born November 15 1840 in Ellin Ohio she was widow of David Josephus Ferree. She came to Oregon in 1868. Survived by several relatives in Portland and Oregon City. Funeral services will be tomorrow at 11 am from the Brown Chapel with Rev R B Gornalt officiating. Interment in Olney Cemetery.

William A McMaster chosen as Pendleton High School principal after one year at Corvallis. He trained at South Dakota Normal and University of Illinois, South Dakota, and Chicago. A 30 year old, 205 pound, 6 foot 2 inch former athlete and teacher, he served as a four minute man in 1917 and plans to arrive Aug 1 after confirming the election.
Members of the D A R presented a nearly 10-foot silk flag to Pendleton Post American Legion at a June meeting. The flag, mounted on a polished staff with a gold spread dagle, will be kept in the county library pending a permanent display. Harold Warter accepted the gift on behalf of the post. The meeting also discussed reinstating war risk insurance with a special agent explaining a 18 month window to reinstate by paying the missed premium.
Federal Judge Wolverton at Portand ordered the return of all assets held by the receiver for the Tribune Company to mortgagor Harry L. Kuck except a car of print paper. The Tribune Company was declared bankrupt and the plant will be sold Thursday at 10 a.m. under mortgaging terms as papers circulate to Judge File Geral. The court withheld disposition on the print paper car pending briefs from both sides.
