Dedication program at new Meth church in city

The new Meth church at the corner of Webb and Johnson streets hosts a full dedication program tomorrow with three services 10 30 morning 2 00 afternoon and 7 20 evening featuring speakers Bishop D H Moore Presiding Elder Walter Skipworth and Dr J A Coleman. Attendees anticipate strong acoustics and large attendance with a reception planned tonight in the church auditorium.

Dedication of Historic Local Church Tomorrow

Henry Brown, former pastor now stationed in Spokane, will attend along with surviving members. Diana Coffman, the last living charter member, will be present at the church dedication. Coffman joined the church at its 1874 founding.

Haywood Sinks Under Neuralgia Delaying Trial

Haywood, suffering from heart disease and neuralgia caused by smoking and toxic poisoning, was unable to stand this morning. Doctors gave morphine to ease the pain as the trial was postponed to this afternoon, with a possible Monday resumption if he cannot appear.

Churches Must Decide. Courts Cannot Stop Presbyterian Union

Springfield June 1. An appellate court ruled civil courts lack power to block the union of the Presbyterian and Cumberland Presbyterian churches by injunction. Cumberland members sued in circuit court to stop the General Assembly from formalizing the union, but the court held that ecclesiastical bodies must decide the articles of faith and church governance.

Steamship President Lincoln Launches Maiden Hamburg Voyage

Hamburg on June 1 reports the steamship President Lincoln departing for New York on its maiden voyage. The vessel, originally built for the Leyland line, was purchased by the Hamburg company and substantially altered. It measures about 18,000 tons.

Railroad official fined for carrying loaded gun in drunk state

W J Dillion, once in charge of a railroad commissary near here, was fined $25 in police court after being found drunk in the Senate saloon with a Colt revolver strapped to him. Judge FitzGerald called for the stop of gun carrying, citing recent killings. Two other prisoners, Robert Gordon and Joe Parr, received $10 and $5 fines with option to serve out.

Shaw Couple Heads to Lehman Springs for Health

Mr and Mrs W T Shaw of Hudson Bay are visiting the city before leaving tomorrow for Lehman Springs. They will stay a few weeks at the mountain resort where Mrs Shaw has been ill, hoping the climate will aid her health.

Seattle Japanese to honor dead on Decoration Day

A Seattle gathering of 200 representative Japanese adopted a resolution endorsing Decoration Day for commemorative exercises. In the future the Japanese colony plans to honor their dead on that day. A death from a recent operation was reported in La Grande. The body was shipped there for burial.
