In Moro Oregon a man fell into an irrigation reservoir near a ranch and died after a fruitless rescue. Charles G. James of Arleta, a Portland suburb harvest hand, disappeared after entering deep water near the dam. Doctors arrived within minutes to find no trace of the body. Workers, pressed by time, demolished the dam in a bid to drain water and locate the body, but the structure collapsed, causing panic as bystanders fled. The reservoir measured about 40 feet wide, 600 feet long, and 12 feet deep. James had been submerged for roughly 16 minutes before the arrival of medical aid.
