Olney cemetery faces dust and access issues as funds fall short for macadam or sprinkling. Commitment flows from $2000 available plus bequest $3000, but caretaker Carter says more funds are required. Proposals include gravity water from Tululia or McKay creeks or a pumped well, each with cost and power concerns.
Dr. W. A. Guild of Des Moines, cousin of Massachusetts Governor Guild and noted sociological lecturer, claims Roosevelt will not run again. He cites fear of losing the black vote, labor opposition, capital distrust, and opposition from William J. Bryan as decisive factors.

John Russell, 15, son of stockman F. H. Russell of La Grande, was instantly killed when struck by Oregon Railroad and Navigation freight train No. 22 while driving a buggy along a hill road near Perry. His horse and buggy were destroyed. the teen’s neck broken as he crashed against a railroad bridge. The mother, living in Starkey Prairie, has been notified.
Reports claim Schrmitz appointed 15 men to the San Francisco board of supervisors, provoking denials and a split with the Taylor faction. Old members vow not to sit with the Taylor-backed board as police officials confer on arrangements. Langdon heads to the hall of justice awaiting developments.

La Grande July 30 Special engineers tracing the Wallowa extension of the O R N to the line from Engin to Wallowa estimate trains will be running in about 60 days. The grade is nearly finished and track laying is under rapid progress.
