Madison Wis July 4 A Witter denunciation of Hoosevelt and a warning to progressives to sacrifice everything to keep progressive organizations within the republican party is voiced by La Follette in a signed editorial in his magazine He says Roosevelt made a social led declaration of his principles five months ago and then abandoned discussion of progressivism. He says Roosevelt lured the president into the campaign and that the Chicago convention frenzied scramble for delegates aimed to seat him and nominate him. He warns this struggle could destroy the sound and vital progressive movements.
Portland July 26 five delegates to the Chicago convention were elected at the state convention of the national progressive party and five presidential electors were nominated. The platform favored Rooseveltian ideas with initiative referendum and recall, direct election of presidents, conservation, Alaska coal development, government ownership of express and telegraph, parcels post, savings banks, tariff moderation, woman suffrage, and I C C extension of power.

Washington July 26 The excise tax bill was made a special order in the senate and a vote is expected tonight. The measure would extend the tax from corporations to individuals with income taxed starting at 10 dollars and rates from two to six percent.
In a live exchange near Mudlow in the Paint Creek region seven Baldwin agency detectives and Miree miners were killed by a bombing of a Baldwin machine gun. The violence escalated as Detective William Springer was killed and William Phaup wounded yesterday, with wires cut and fears of more bloodshed.
