Sunday closing law cases move to superior court
Walla Walla July 23. Despite convictions last week in three Sunday closing violations, the same defendants Schwarts Schneidrach and Onevy were re arrested Monday on warrants for the same offense. Complaints filed and warrants issued from the superior court, where the trials will occur. Prosecuting Attorney Oscar Cain says the superior court offers heavier penalties and avoids duplication of time and expense since appeals go to the higher court anyway. He cites evidence that the defendants kept their businesses open and made no attempt to close, and notes enforcement hinges on a court ruling of constitutionality.
