Cooperative store movement planned by farmers grain firm
A Rochdale style cooperative store is proposed by the Farmers Grain & Supply Co and local farmers in Davenpont Washington. Alana Wardell leads the push with a meeting at Florine Implement Co. The plan calls for a capital stock of 210000 to 15000 dollars with shares at 500 each and one share per person. Nine directors two auditors will run the enterprise with a general manager after incorporation. The aim is to have the store first in the country and to fund by member subscriptions to stock. Minors may own stock and dividends are pro rata to goods purchased. There is talk of buying an existing store and operating under the Rochdale system. A second meeting is set for Saturday to finalize by laws and raise capital.
