Eight suffragettes are arrested in Dublin charged with complicity in a plan to burn or dynamite the Theater Royal where Premier Asquith is to speak tonight. Police find gunpowder and inflammables in lodgings as investigators probe independent action versus organized support.
A party from Bristol Rhode Island arrived in Pendleton yesterday afternoon around four after an ocean to ocean car trip. The four passengers including Mr and Mrs H L Williams H L Cooke and the driver dined here for about 30 minutes and swapped a punctured tire for a sound one before continuing to Walla Walla Seattle and finally down the coast toward San Francisco and New Mexico. They started May 27 in a 45 horsepower Knox and expect to meet warm weather as they traverse roughly 6000 miles with side trips in New York State and Colorado despite rainy weather and rough roads earlier in the journey. The walnut bodied car drew much attention on Main Street for its beauty and travel equipment.
In Washington on July 19 the Senate as a high court of impeachment gave Judge Robert W. Archbald until July 29 to prepare a defense to charges. The trial is pushed toward completion before adjournment. Archbald’s attorney Worthington said he will plead not guilty and asked for more time.
Congressman Hawley probes a suspected fraudulent option on about 112 640 acres in the Siletz Indian reservation. Attorney General Crawford says no lien was created as settlers were unaware of the option, and officials suspect a syndicate aimed to cancel entries and free land for other selections.

The suffrage headquarters shop window becomes a lantern screen showing pictorial arguments while a speaker explains the displays to a growing crowd. Local merchants fund the lantern and operator through in-window ads.

Italian torpedo boats attempting to pass the Dardanelles were fired on by Turkish forts at dawn. Two Italian ships were sunk and others damaged as the fleet fled into the Aegean. Turkish forts on European and Asiatic sides opened with cannon fire and notified powers that the strait remains closed.
Dr. W J Stapish Hermiston promoter wins a preliminary victory as Circuit Judge G W Phelps extends habeas corpus until August 5. Governor West is away, leaving unresolved whether requisition papers will send Stapish to Ohio to face charges of publishing false statements and obtaining money under false pretenses. Defense argues the law change after the crime removes indictment grounds. Stapish remains free to manage west end interests and heads to Hermiston for office work.
Government experts report that goat raising could become a major U S industry. Development would cut imports of skins, saving money, while boosting meat supply. Last year goat skin imports totaled 24 million dollars, illustrating strong U S demand.
