Typhoid on the wane but other fevers rise in city
Physicians report no new typhoid cases for three to four days apart from one from Umatilla. Many illnesses are bilious or malaria fever, often misattributed to typhoid. Cases cluster south of the railroad and west of Main street, where sewer issues persist. A sewer in the John Schmidt building block was repaired and funded pro rata by owners after officials found basements filled with sewage.
