Italy Lacking in Coal Forces Shift to Electric Power
Italy relies on electric power as coal supplies dwindle. From 1914 to 1918, electric firms in Turin and Milan spent over 10 million dollars on water power plants. Italy consumes 12,000,040 tons of coal annually, with much imported from Britain and America. Engineer Signor Maffeo Pantaleo argues three quarters of consumption could be saved by developing water power, though much remains undeveloped.
