Westbound tour of Teddy spreads across speeches and short talks. He receives numerous invitations from the press clubs and civic groups, forced to decline many requests. He will address the Hamilton Club in Chicago and the Press Club in Milwaukee, with a Beveridge speech venue yet to be chosen.
Roosevelt will share a platform with Taft in Knoxville Tennessee in October at the Appalachian Exposition. Roosevelt accepted the invitation to deliver an address on August 17 and a week later Taft will speak at the same exposition. Former Ambassador Thompson boosted the third term movement by noting western press sentiment supports it.
Theodore Roosevelt outlined two itineraries for upcoming speaking tours. Western trip runs Aug 26 to Sep 14, visiting Cheyenne Denver Osawatomie Omaha Sioux Falls Fargo St Paul Milwaukee Freeport Chicago Pittsburg and ends in New York. Southern trip runs Oct 6 to Oct 16 with stops in Atlanta Hot Springs Peoria and Indiana, concluding with remarks before the Knights of Columbus on Uncle Remus day. Roosevelt will speak before Hamilton Club and Press Club audiences and has declined many invitations to keep to timetable.
Newark July 14. Thirty alleged lynchers are confined in cells and denied outside communication for alleged participation in the lynching of Detective Etherington. Each prisoner is examined separately and many are bound over to the grand jury for a hearing. Police maintain close watch amid tension.
The Indiana venue for the Beveridge speech depends on political exigencies. Roosevelt has only a general idea of topics and will address current issues that fuel the campaign, aiming for an open, straightforward plea for Beveridge’s success.
Washington reports a Department of Agriculture pamphlet warning that many medicated soft drinks soothing syrups catarrh powders and tobacco cures can lead to drug dependence. It cites ingredients like cocaine morphine acetanimid and chloral and cautions that repeated use may create a dope habit and compulsion to continue using such remedies.
A 16 year old Seattle high school boy, once a brigadier general in the Nicaraguan rebel army, was reportedly paroled and sent home after being captured at Principale during the Madriz surge. His parents in Seattle await his return as he recovers, with the local tale noting a Houston physician’s condition for parole.
New York Ohio July 14 After hours of conference Mayor Herbert Atherton resigns his office amid party and friend pressure to avoid a governor led investigation following last week’s Anti-Saloon League detective probe and Atherton’s suspension. Newark’s leadership vows to restore order as city seeks self cleaning. Eight arrests are reported as acting Mayor Ankelo orders riot suspects detained. Attorney General Denman orders continued witness examination this afternoon.
Cleveland July 15 One man is killed and two seriously wounded as three bandits battle forty Lake Shore railroad construction laborers near North Olmstead. Laborers were paid last night. bandits entered bunk house before dawn, four sleeping workers opened fire, bandits fled after wounding three. A sheriff later pursued in automobiles.
London authorities say Hawley Crippen and his companion Madamoiselle Lenneva are surrounded. Detectives probe Crippen movements at time of wife’s disappearance. Dr Pepper, government analyst, says Crippen poisoned the woman. Body badly decomposed by lime. identity not yet confirmed. An inquest set for tomorrow. friends failed to identify the body.

He arrived July 4 and has drawn protests from the United States over conditions and anti American sentiment in western Nicaragua.
Southern Pacific company retires its preferred stock with a choice to receive $115 in cash, or $20 in cash plus $190 in 4 1/2 per cent bonds, or to exchange preferred for common on a one for one basis, effective today July 17.

Chicago July 1 The federal grand jury began probing the packing company trust cases today. It will investigate the National Packing Company for alleged restraint of trade. Company members were summoned and documents were submitted for inspection. It is predicted to be the most arching investigation yet made.
Reports on public school conditions in three eastern Oregon counties show overall improvement. Crook County’s enrollment fell from 2155 in 1909 to 2130 in 1910 while Creek County increased teachers and salaries. Wasco County grew pupils to 3534 as spending rose to 70327.93 with male salaries up to 90 dollars and female to 55. Harney County added teachers and pupils with expenditure about 145449.20 and average male salaries down to 60 and female to 44 dollars.
Dispatches report widespread wildfires across Montana, Idaho, Washington, and Southern Oregon threatening hundreds of thousands of dollars in timber. Fires at Mig Creek, Nelson's Shain, Dudley, Ping Creek, Garun Bay, Spirit Lake, Loon Lake, and areas near the Flathead reservation, with three hundred workers tied to Kootenai reserves, struggle amid drought. The Mamimo area in Columbia is also at risk unless rain arrives.
Spokane July 14 The city engineer Morton McCartney stood atop the Spokane river bridge span said to be 281 feet long to show the structure would not fail when cut at its top point. Iron workers quit tearing the tolling falsework, fearing the central span would drop into Spokane Falls, as the 1896-built bridge was being torn down for a concrete replacement.
In Philadelphia a July 16 report says committees of the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen and the Order of Railway Conductors, representing Pennsylvania railroads west of Pittsburgh, press for wage increases and shorter hours. They may announce the walkout time this afternoon, while the company claims higher wages are impossible now. A related July 15 note says negotiations are off and a walkout date near tonight.
Pittsburg July 15 General Manager Peck of the lines west of Pittsburg meets with railroad committees who have voted willingness to strike if demands for shorter hours and higher wages are not granted. Workers accuse Peck of stalling and say a strike will follow unless concessions are made.
Milwaukee reports Senator La Follette will not seek re election in the upcoming primary. Campaign manager C H Crownheart states the senator will accept the people's judgment at the primary and will await the legislature to ratify the choice if not endorsed.
New York reports July 15 state Miss Mary Mannering is engaged to Frederick Wadsworth a Detroit connected millionaire whose wife has a divorce. Mannering is said to be divorced from James Hackett. Friends fear marriage rumor if she does not return to New York.
Zion City in Chicago marked the Prophet Drews's founding anniversary with no celebration. The Dowlettes mourn the leader and the town is described as in the hands of infidels. July 15 had signified the ten days of the abter niate during the prophet's life.
Vienna July 14. In response to Montenegro note all powers agree to elevate Montenegro to kingdom status. Ceremony to proclaim the elevation will be held at a cast on the jubilee occasion of Prince Nicholas.
In San Bernardino mountains heavy rain caused mining property damage and scattered miners from Holcombe valley torrents. White Water Ridge washed out Southern Pacific tracks delaying trains. No lives reported lost.
