A fragmented report states the king departed by rail to Portsmouth this morning with a royal escort and queen accompanying him. Doctors and attendants witnessed the journey as the king was placed on a flat railway carriage and then moved by ambulance toward the depot.
Reports indicate Chamberlain’s health is improving though rest is required. Debates within political clubs express relief at Salisbury’s retirement and succession speculation. A section of Liberals and Conservatives push for Chamberlain’s early appointment as premier. others urge cautious timing amid foreign policy anxiety.
A. L. Humphreys, Hawaii circuit judge, resigns after sending his nomination to the president. He was the first judge appointed to the Hawaiian bench after annexation and served as Hawaii’s territorial era. South Bend monument bids opened for a large memorial by county commissioners. Portland reports Chinese gambling houses and related games halted by police on Second Street.
Portland reports that A. L. King, the assailant of a triple murder last Saturday, has had charges filed and awaits trial. He cannot attend a hearing until September as legal proceedings proceed in court.
Washington July 15 Major General Wheaton retires at age 64 after 41 years in the U S Army. He began as a private in 1861 serving in the Civil War on the Eighth Illinois, later Indian frontier, Spanish American War and in the Philippines where he led the north Philippines department and proposed zones of protection. He is praised for gallant service and departs for Chicago to make his home. Brigadier General John C Bates to succeed him, later brigadier in 1901 and noted for actions in the Philippines and Jolo.
Seattle July 15 The search for Tracy intensifies as Merrill's body is found near Chehalis confirming Tracy's killing of his companion. The 30 40 caliber bullet matches Tracy's gun, and Tracy is believed to be on the Muckleshure Indian reservation near Auburn. The posse remains scattered along freight routes as reports of Tracy boarding a train near Buckley surface without confirmation.
Heavy train loads are leaving the W C R and N P lines as stock ships east. Monday evening eight cars left the W C R yards for Seattle for Cam ton Bros. at Seattle wholesalers. Additional cars bound for Ta coma and Seattle. three cars to Pacific Meat Co. at Tacoma. Few cattle are going to market currently.
Delegates to the national convention of miners begin arriving in Indianapolis on July 15 to consider the advisability of a general strike of bituminous miners. President Mitchell is among the morning arrivals with general opinion favoring a strike discussion.
In Argentine Kansas, water from the Kaw River broke an improvised dyke yesterday, flooding a large area and leaving 46 families homeless. The Kansas rivers Kaw and Missouri are at their highest levels since the flood began, worsening the situation.

Portland reports a telegraphic dispatch stating the body of Dave Merrill, an Oregon convict who fled Salem penitentiary with Desperado Harry Tracy, was found near Chehalis Washington. Authorities identified the body through Warden Jones and Coroner Greep, corroborating Tracy’s account of Merrill’s death near Chehalis.
Surveyors four men work along the south fork of the Walla Walla River running a line up the river bank near Dorrity's farm past the Roberts place. Residents speculate about reviving plans for a railroad across the mountains to Summerville using the canyon route. The team is fast and secrecyish about their purpose, recalling a prior survey by W G Sayles years ago for capitalists.

New York July 15 Foreigners fleece here from Venezuela via cables from Port of Spain Trinidad correspondent of the Herald. Surprise at the smallness of the United States naval forces in Venezuelan waters especially at La Guayra where officials say they cannot control the revolution. Puerto Cabello Campano and Barcelona lack U S warships and residents face great danger.
Reports say at least 20 more bodies remain in the rolling mill mine as rescue work continues. The pastor of the miners church says many congregants are missing and believes their bodies lie in the mine.
Portsmouth July 15 The sanitary condition of Havana worsens as neglect of streets and plumbing grows while sewers choke up. The death rate in the first month of Cuban government shows a sharp increase, signaling a dangerous public health decline.
Miss Jessie Morrison arrived at the state penitentiary in Lansing at 11 yesterday to begin a 26 year term for the murder of Mrs. Olin Castle at Eldorado. She is downcast and no work has been assigned yet.
Farmers from across the county report varying levels of loss from the Monday wind. Some say thousands of dollars in grain damage, especially to wheat, others claim little or no harm as barley and wheat near ripening show uneven effects or no shattering. A rancher near Nelson cites severe loss, while railroad officials observe no noticeable damage along the line.
New York July 15. The yacht Arab owned and skippered by J H Cameron cashier of the National of the Republic capsized in a squall last night. Two passengers were drowned. Cameron and the others were saved by a tugboat.
