Executive committee appointed last night by local agricultural societies not yet named to act with governor’s appointees. Possible delay in making appropriation available as district attorney Bellows says funds can be reached during the first week in October.
A meeting is planned for Friday evening at Pendleton to organize the Third Eastern Oregon District Agricultural Society. Committees and citizens of Umatilla County are called to assemble at the Commercial rooms at seven oclock to effect the organization, as filed February 3, 1905. Attending signatories include SD. W. Maloney W. L. Thompson G. M. Rice and James A. Fee.
A district fair to be held during the first week in October was approved by the County Development League and Commercial Association. A five member commission, including two Mor row county residents, will oversee preparations under a governor appointed slate. Funds and statutory questions linger as District Attorney Phelpae seeks guidance from the attorney general before securing a 1500 warrant for premiums if money is available.

James Manning a 57 year old man tied to Charles Gulteau figures died in a stable in Chicago July 11. He once led Gulteau to the gallows, was son in law to a wealthy man, and had fallen from wealth to a stable hand after separating from his wife amid disputes over fortune.
Milan Nellie Elimon of Ellsworth Minnesota was found murdered in a Minneapolis hotel. Police say robbery was the motive and that she carried cash from her millinery business. A person familiar with her affairs is suspected. Elimon planned to marry railroad conductor Rigen and move to Washington to buy a farm.
In New York July 11 a London cable asks if Roosevelt swiped clothes during a swimming match. Bryan replies that not all were taken and doubts the rest would fit. He says enforcing laws is uphill for Roosevelt, given his platform and administration. France Ander faces murder charges for Mine Elfleon, held without bail and claiming no knowledge of the crime.
Secretary Taft was in Detroit on July 11 en route to Fry to aeldhem for the Ohio Bar association visit. Asked if he could be a candidate for president, he replied I am not.
The jury acquitted George Mitchell after one hour and 25 minutes of deliberation. The verdict sparked cheers in the courtroom as Mitchell claimed he did not kill, but was justified by the wrongs inflicted by Joshua Creffield and his Holy Roller followers. C. V. Burt of Corvallis described it as justice, while Mitchell plans to return to work in a Portland flour mill.
Chicago July 11. The corporation counsel has prepared a list of millionaires with property valued at $200,000,000 and declares it assessed at less than half that sum, and makes a protest.
In Blytheville Arkansas on July 11 Joseph Vaughn who wed without his bride’s father consent returned for approval and was shot dead in front of his bride by her father Joseph Woods who fled. Elsewhere in Sebastopol Vice Admiral wounded as mutineers attempted to assassinate him.
Two Alton officials John N Faithorn and Fred Wann were fined a combined 20 000 by Judge Lan Mis in federal court for six rebates offenses linked to payments to Packers Swareehiid & Sulzberger. Corporation fined 40 000 and both officials 10 000 each. Appeals filed. jurisdiction change hinted as Standard Oil of Ohio probe widens.
In San Francisco on July 11 the relief commission adopted a resolution to form a corporation for housing ventures with 2,000,000 in capital and authority to rent or sell homes to relief beneficiaries. The report will go to the finance committee for an afternoon session with a stronger request for immediate action.
Stockton July 11 flood from the San Joaquin river inundates over 40,000 acres of prime land. The levee on the old Jones tract broke last night, flooding 6000 acres of barley potatoes and napaeae. Charles Worving and 10 men with 20 horses were swept up. the men will escape but the horses are drowned.
Arcadia Nebraska July 11 a gasoline stove explosion killed Mrs William Milemer and her 4 year old daughter. A youth named William Fletcher was badly burned while attempting rescue.
In St Joseph Missouri on July 11 forty seven saloon keepers were arrested for violating the Sunday law. They pleaded not guilty and were denied immediate trials, to await their turns in court.
New York district attorney seeks testimony about Thaw’s alleged plan to shoot White at the Hotel St Regi. Beatrice Schwarz and Willy Sturgis provide possible lead incidents. Thaw considers emotional insanity plea. defense plans to argue his mental state.
Fresno July 11 A report from Madera states Shortiff Jones failed to locate the Yosemite highwayman. Jones returned from the hunt claiming the bandit escaped despite efforts. No further details on sightings or pursuit were provided.
Milton leaders including banker A M Alar push a preliminary survey to join Milton to the Walla Walla & Columbia Traction system. The line runs four miles from Milton, with a terminal zone offered by locals and a planned extension to the Colubia river basin. Engineers begin Milton survey as profiles and estimates for the route start. General Manager Haynes seeks free use of irrigation lines for congress business.
Portland edged Seattle 3 to 2 in July 11 action. Freeno led Oakland past San Francisco 6 to 4, while Los Angeles defeated Oakland 9 to 1 in the same slate.
Harvest is starting in matin county with barley and wheat thresher activity reported across the reservation. J A Brigham and William Schwandt plan to start their threshers soon, while others prepare for a week or two of operations. Heat caused some loss, but cool weather improved prospects with most grain likely to grade No 1. losses estimated 10 to 20 percent.
In Chicago on July 11 the bricklayers union suffered a safe robbery. The safe was blown and $1000 was taken. the thieves escaped. The Chicago wheat market showed grains trading with wheat at 7, corn at 52 1 2, and oats at 7 8.
The Fourth of July committee voted to refund the remaining $225 to subscribers pro rata after paying all bills. Some proposed using the surplus to fund converts by the Fagles band, but the motion passed to rebate the balance. Band concerts would require a new summer subscription, with concerts priced at $2.50 per night or $40 per performance. Also noted is a $14 claim by John Van Great for chimney damage from a parachute during the day after the Fourth, balloon security held by Van Oredall.
