Visiting bands from across the country flood Peridicion today for a grand parade and city celebrations. The pageant continues tomorrow and tomorrow night with performances and community events drawing hundreds and showcasing local and national musical groups.
Tonight at 7 o clock street concerts by bands begin with an 8 30 illuminated automobile parade and 9 00 free dancing at Hagle Woodman and Armory halls Tomorrow at 1 30 Round up Park features horse and pony races saddle horse tug of war and team pulling contests plus other events 5 o clock hose races on Main Street.
Pendleton hosts a county wide Fourth of July celebration with thousands in town. An early 5 am thunder salute awakened residents, bands arrived from Athena, Weston and Pilot Rock, and a long auto parade led by Mayor Matlock featured the Goddess of Liberty Miss Laura Jerard 43 and attendants. The Ross car with pink roses drew extra attention.
Washington July 4. President Wilson returns to the White House after a three day Mayflower cruise in Chesapeake Bay seeking relief from heat. The yacht visited Virginia capes Hampton Roads Yorktown where he toured the Nelson mansion Temple Farm and the Yorktown courthouse. A 12 year old girl did not recognize him.
Patrick Quinlan, a leader of the Industrial Workers of the World, was sentenced in Paterson to prison for not less than two nor more than seven years and fined 3500. He was convicted of inciting riot among striking silk mill workers.
Gettysburg July 4 50 years after Lees retreat at Gettysburg gray and blue veterans joined to lay the cornerstone of the Gettysburg Peace Memorial honoring both sides fallen in the three days battle. Former President Taft led speakers as a massive pyrotechnic program lit Little Round Top with a 200 by 120 foot American flag and a blue gray veteran clasping hands with a dove of peace.
Judge Stephen A Lowell reflects on General George Gordon Meades pivotal role at Gettysburg and his relative forgotten status. The piece traces Meades career from West Point to civil war battles, noting his promotion, wounds, and leadership through to the war hear.

Dutch delegates raised issues about Holland's 1811 anti immorality law. Delegates debated organization and inviting official delegates. The session ended with a prayer by the Bishop of Winchester. Delegates dine with the International Young Women's Christian Association committee. tomorrow they attend a garden party hosted by Sir John Brunner. The King and British government have shown strong interest, with daily official reports to the King. American delegates plan to join the Independence Day celebration at the Hotel Cecil.
