Nez Perce Woman Sues for Damages to End Common Law Marriage
Lizzie Buxsett, a 24 year old Nez Perce woman, sues David McFarland for 32000 alleging seduction after residing at his home in 1905. The case, if decided favorably, could influence abolition of common law marriage among the Nez Perce and Northwest tribes. McFarland, a well educated tribal leader and Carlisle graduate, faced adultery charges in 1906 later withdrawn. The suit is by attorney Clay McNamee and is of widespread church interest.

Died of Starvation in Baker City Woman Found Dead in Wilolowvale
In Baker City a destitute woman Mrs C A Carrot aged about 45 to 50 was found dead last evening in a single room on Estes street. Neighbors and police report she suffered intense stomach pain and had little food. Four children are believed to exist but their whereabouts are unknown.
