John Don dero took 60000 from his pocket mine at Columbia hill yesterday. The find is one of the largest pockets in Toulumne county, in a district that was considered worked out forty years ago.

Freight brakeman James Swart killed by freight at La Grande

James A Swart a 20 year old freight brakeman and telegraph operator at Kamel on the O R & N was killed by an eastbound freight at 4:00 am in the La Grande yards. He was transferring between the engine and pilot when the 40 car train rolled over him. He leaves a two year old son and parents Mr and Mrs W Swart on a Meacham Creek farm. Four brothers and a sister also noted. Funeral set for Friday afternoon in La Grande Oregon.

Dog triggers cow quarrel ends with arm amputation

In Roseburg Oregon on January 21 Cheorge Spraeklin and Charles Allen quarreled over a dog annoying a cow. Spraeklin was shot with a 44 caliber rifle at close range, his left elbow shattered and amputated. Al leen escaped injury. No arrests. Spraeklin underwent surgery in this city after being brought Sunday.

The supreme court this morning confirmed the sentence of Lord Seymour Barrington and set March 15 for his execution in Jefferson City Missouri. A rope and knife found in the cell were believed to be intended for his own death before the decision was announced.
