In Walla Walla on January 27 a man calling himself Reed was held by police for several hours while investigators probed his link to the Moore case. Moore, imitating ex-senator William P. Reser, cashed three checks at the saloon trade using a fake signature, with saloon men reporting a $30 for $20 loss and a $60 counterfeit fund. Reed claims no knowledge of the scheme. Moore was described as a small man in coveralls with a two week beard, posing as a laborer to blend into crowds.

Ten talemen were examined this morning eight excused for cause some for having formed an opinion others for opposition to capital punishment where the evidence is circumstantial The defendant shows marked interest as examinations proceed and a sickly smile crosses his face when a tailed man says he has an opinion.

Sumpter June 27 William Maddern of Bourne was arraigned before Justice G E Allen on a murder charge after a fatal Friday night confrontation with William Littell at Bourne. Defense argued possible self defense or accidental shooting as the judge refused to let him testify fully. Angelo Perma and Joseph Matena were involved in a separate shooting with Austrian suspects unnamed.
