Wreck survivors picked from raft near Valencia reef

The steamer City of Topeka found one life raft near Valencia wreck with 20 crew aboard, taking 18 survivors to Port Townsend or Seattle. Survivors report 90 aboard when wreck occurred, many clinging to rigging as capsized vessel faded in storm. another raft with 10 more expected later.

Anti box ordinance passed by Pendleton council

The Pendleton city council adopted an anti box ordinance modeled after Portland statute. It prohibits saloon or restaurant proprietors from serving liquor in private boxes with penalties up to fifty dollars or twenty five days in jail.
