New York January 24 A pamphlet urging Gold Star mothers to write the Adjutant General in Washington to oppose returning dead soldiers from France was issued by Brigadier General Mabel Forda Garetwon and Jane O'Ryan sister of Major General John P Ryan. They claim the plan costs public funds and benefits undertakers, cite Rep Caraway's 259.0 million bay proposal, and quote a US forces mortuary officer in Britain about costs. The effort argues keeping bodies abroad would avoid burden on widows orphans and European civilians.
