Historic Sabre Tied to Captain Martin in Court House
An old sabre hangs in the Umatilla county courthouse commissioners room, said to have belonged to Captain Martin, a pioneer sheriff and county judge. It has adorned the building since its early days, with legends claiming use in Indian wars or cutting roadwork obstacles. Locked for years in the treasurer’s vault, it is kept by County Treasurer Bradley Invins, with authorities discussing its future in a county historical display.
