Fire destroys Dickson house of Hartman Abstract man
A spectacular morning blaze destroyed the Dickson house, a prominent residence on the hill north of the Uma tilla river. Mrs Johns and the baby narrowly escaped with assessments placing the value of the home at about $6000 and contents at $2500, with little insurance. The fire, started while Mrs Johns tended to chores, burned over an hour and water could not reach the isolated site. The home was owned by L Oldenburg of La Grande and erected by Haldane Dickson about 12 years ago. The Johns family sought temporary shelter with Rev. and Mrs. Charles Quinney.
