Public Opinion has finally conquered big business he says. Men of affairs today are convinced that the ways of liberty are also the ways of peace and also the ways of business men. No sweeping changes are necessary.

A House of Representatives committee will investigate Federal Judge Speer of Georgia over charges he used influence to favor relatives in court. J F Robinson, owner of Domestic Laundry, received a letter from Joan G Bellows, once a laundry wagon driver, now assistant superintendent of the Alaska coal expedition from Knik. Mexico City January 20. Huerta, under pressure from his cabinet, temporarily abandoned plans to take the field himself against the rebels. The ministers objected so strongly that he yielded, deciding not to lead his troops personally for the time being.

In Washington on January 20 representative Johnson of Kentucky and attorney John Shields clashed in a fist fight in a House committee room. Both men suffered cuts and bruises after more than a dozen blows were exchanged before clerks separated them. Johnson demanded a revolver after the altercation.
John P McManus veteran editor of the Pilot Rock Record and prominent local figure was indicted by the grand jury on larceny charges. The case involves alleged theft of a rancher's wheat, with defense claiming debt settlement. Also indicted were Willian Hart for larceny and another unnamed man. The jury later considered an additional potentially interesting case.
