Petition to be sent to Interior for graduation, with hundreds of signatures. Wrestling fans set a February bout in Hermiston featuring Kennedy of Hermiston vs O Connell of Portland. Several Pendleton Spokane visitors reported. H. Hobson reviews the project. Francia N Curtis filed final proof on 160 acre homestead near Hermiston.

Bear Story Counts: Hunter Kills 400-Pound Bear
Bernie Smith, a Monticello trapper, killed a 400 pound bear with his bare hands after chasing it from a den in Sul livan county. Smith and Peon Ackley smoked out the animal, fought it on a ledge, and Smith wrapped his arms around the bear's windpipe until it collapsed.

Warrant Issued for Ennis in Gambling Case in Walla Walla
In Walla Walla on January 18 a formation charging Frank G. Ennis with allowing the building at 61-2 West Main to be used for gambling was filed in superior court and a warrant issued. Ennis was allowed to post $600 bail. The complaining witness is A. B. Evans, who has just completed a 90 day sentence for gambling.

Range War Leads to Gun Duel in Grande Ronde
Lewiston Idaho Jan 19 A clash between cavemen and sheepmen along the Washington Oregon boundary sparked a gun duel in the Grande Ronde country. Press Montgomery was shot four times by George Tippitts and paralyzed. Tippitts surrendered claiming self defense. Both men are prominent stockmen in Grande Ronde. Montgomery had previously killed Loren Hawk nearby.

Little Mothers Schools Open in Chicago Public Schools
Thirty two little mothers schools will open in Chicago public school buildings this afternoon and more than 1000 girls from upper elementary grades are expected to attend. Under health department direction they will learn to care for babies including dressing, feeding, soothing, and diagnosing crying.
