Despondent janitor suicide at Auspland Drugs store
John Christenson, 60, longtime janitor at Auspland Drugs, 110 North Sixth Street, Portland, shot himself in the basement at 10 this morning. Clerks found him with a revolver and a chloroform bottle, a note tied to the bottle neck, and a will revealing a $2100 estate and a wish to fund city efforts to clean up bawdy houses. He had been despondent over illness and had sought poison previously. The note offered $1000 to whoever could force signs on furnished rooms to curb prostitution. Unfurnished rooms advertised in the East Oregonian building EB office.
