Progress on Riparia Line in Inland Empire I
Engineer Jeffress reported satisfactory progress on the Riparia line despite cold weather. 600 men work from Almota to Lewiston with two months of good weather needed to finish grading and ready the road bed for steel. Two miles per day track laying expected once grading ends, with 84 miles remaining. A steam shovel near Granite Point works well while the Boom Bay shovel is sidelined by frozen pipes but will be repaired soon. Jeffress left for Portland and Lowinton for a business trip.
