A man described as formerly residing nearby was arrested on Main Street after acting queerly and causing a disturbance at the Queen Chop House. He was taken to county jail on a charge of insanity, with police restraining him after a wild outburst.
Mra Lulu Prince Kennedy sat in the criminal court at Kansas City on retrial day after three years since she shot and killed her husband Philp H Kennedy a merchant dispatch agent in his office. The first trial verdict was guilty with ten years in the penitentiary. The supreme court remanded for retrial as defense lawyers present new witnesses and contend the shooting occurred under new circumstances.

Baker City January 18 L. M. Stowell known as Black Jack accidentally shot and killed a man while cleaning a rifle in Bear valley Grant county. The weapon discharged causing fatal injuries as the pair moved toward a grain ward in the area.
Dispatches report a German West Africa crisis after the execution of Chief Nicodemus sparks a race war. Rebels, including 20,000 Negroes, threaten Windhook as telegraphs and railways are destroyed and 300,000 whites face terror. German reinforcements head for Africa to quell the uprising.
James Blair of Sh Vane died today after a weeks long illness tied to mortification and shame. The report notes Blair served as president of the board of lady managers and faced charges of official misconduct. Mrs Blair and others connected to the St Louis expedition are mentioned, with remarks on devotion and personal hardships.
Kalamazoo Mich Jan 14 Fleet of twenty yachts from New York New Jersey Wisconsin Minnesota Canada and Michigan will begin the international lee yacht regatta on Gull Lake tomorrow under the Kalamazoo Yacht Club auspices. The event includes the Stewart international trophy for boats not over 860 square feet and several other important races.

Debate to occupy four to six weeks, delaying ratification and payments around 28,000,000 until April. President sent a Colombian note from General Reyes and the reply by Bayard Elay, noting Hague transfer request refused.
Seven hundred pupils filed out of Spokane High School in under two minutes during a fire drill. Principal H T Coleman supervised as students exited via three exits. one minute target noted for full evacuation in emergencies. Authorities reported the building could be emptied rapidly with all doors working.
Union County Court fixes 1904 tax levy totaling 64 mills. County and state levy at 34 mills, city and school levies 10 mills each, making city total 54 mills, two mills higher than last year.

Baker City Jan 18 attorneys for Pleasant Armstrong say they will appeal to a higher court after the Oregon Supreme Court refused to grant a new trial on probable cause. The case likely moves to the United States Supreme Court.
Dayton January 11 400 children calmly evacuated the burning Allen school after a fire began in the basement. One crippled boy was trampled near the outer entrance but only minor injuries were reported as one wing of the building was destroyed.
The January term opened with a small docket and witness shortages. Several defendants pled guilty to modified charges, fines were imposed, bonds forfeited, and one case dismissed. Judge Ellis discharged a juror until February 1, and adjourned after addressing the sparse docket and absent witnesses.
Mrs Hattie Krebs a longtime resident of Umatilla County died at 66 after a two year illness. Born May 24, 1864 in Linn County Oregon she moved to Umatilla in 1878. She married Harry Krebs in 1887 and leaves two children and several relatives. Funeral by Women of Woodcraft will be at home tomorrow at 10 with Rev G W Rigby. interment in Weston tomorrow afternoon.
