Johnson Won't Run for Congress in Local Race
Roscoe R. Johnson, longtime local attorney, announces he will not enter the upcoming congressional race citing the need to continue his law practice. Pendleton and west end supporters voiced hope for his candidacy due to irrigation expertise and reclamation work. With Johnson out, Judge A. Lowell would be the lone local aspirant, while candidates from Athena including S. F. Wilson and C. A. Barrett emerge, and John P. Rusk leads as a progressive frontrunner for the Republican nomination with other figures like George T. Cochran Nick Sinnott and R. R. Butler discussed as potential entrants. The district covers Lake and Klamath counties, which are not expected to field candidates this cycle, leaving three months before the April primary and promising a winter campaign.
