Theodore William Shafer a Pendleton machinist died yesterday morning at St. Anthony's hospital after a several week bout with typhoid fever He was 38 and a Nebraska native who had lived in Pendleton for 14 to 15 years He mentored farmers as an expert machinist and recently served as engineer on the county roller on the Rieth road His father Theodore A Shafer of Gearwell Oregon and a brother were in the city for the funeral set for 2:30 p.m at the Folsom chapel followed by interment at Olney cemetery
Four school children perished in a Winnipeg blizzard era as freezing conditions trapped them in a building. The father, Ovide Beachamps, mourns while authorities say two children were rescued but could not save the others.
Oregon Agricultural College schedules November 17 in Pendleton for a football game between the O A C team and Whitman Idaho or Montana. Jan 15 Meacham Geo Hiiman, an engineer on the mountains, discovered a strange situation. He reports a sighting about a creature stranded halfway between here and Karmela. The death of snow has halted travel, leaving the animal exhausted. Pictures were taken of the scene Saturday.
Milton Jan 13 Mrs Engel Torgenon aged 79 died Friday evening at 7 pm at her daughter’s home on Chestnut Street where she had resided for years. A Norway native who settled in Oregon 17 years ago she had heart trouble. She was survived by two daughters Mrs H Ramnuseen of Milton Mrs Sorgerson of Cerlew Washington and a son Mr Tor genon of Milton. Funeral this afternoon at 2 from the home with Pastor Allen A McRae officiating. Interment at the O and F cemetery Milton.
New York police report a strange exchange at a Maritime Hotel where a woman names a man as Jitney Ford and says he is connected to the Wet Party. An officer questions the motive as the man, described as 26, gives multiple aliases and is taken to the station after the encounter.
