News of Farm and Range Fire Swept Northwest
The 1910 forest fires destroyed millions of acres of timber but opened vast summer range for 400000 sheep and thousands of cattle. New forage plants and mountain grasses revived the burned area, especially in the Clearwater forest near Southeastern Washington. Northern Pacific considers five car sheep shipments to Idaho unload points, aiding range use. Government and forest officials urge stockmen to utilize the forage as watersheds recover. Separate court actions involve the Orchard Home addition near Polson and the Orchard Company for contract breaches. Sheepmen attend the Washington wool growers association in North Yakima.
