Pendleton residents can now receive free mail delivery beyond the sidewalk line if their home is numbered and a request is made. Carriers equipped with gum boots and leggings will deliver within the carrier district, including most city municipalities, even through water and snow. Previously, free delivery was limited to homes on sidewalks, causing many to haul mail themselves.
In Lincoln Nebraska this morning the charred body of Night Watchman Crawford was found with a head wound. Police suspect robbers attempted to loot the factory. Crawford fell and kicked over a lantern, starting the blaze that consumed the plant.
