Washington Jan 1 The investigation by the House on the note leak charges will start tomorrow with Indiana work official Lawson to be subpoenaed by wire following a two hour session.
London reports say Germany will counter the Allies peace terms with a mixed reply. Rome sources claim Italy and the Corriere Della Ticino speak of a cautious, ambiguous stance from Germany. Officials expect the reply to be forwarded soon, presenting a hard line amid wartime talks and peace pressures.
Berlin reports a German explanatory note on neutral considerations rejects several Allied claims as unchallenged. Berlin advises it is strongly opposed to permitting numerous Allied statements to go unchallenged.
Dispatches from Athens indicate continued Greek cabinet hesitation in fully complying with the Entente note. The blockade remains in effect until Greece meets demands, amid public opinion currents. Mrs Rebora Cockburn mother of County Commissioner H M Cockburn died yesterday at her Milton home at age 76 after a period of illness. Commissioner Cockburn was away at a court meeting when the news came. Survived by two sons Frank and George Cockburn and five other children. daughter Mrs Will Harder Antherada. another son Charles Cockburn ill in California and unable to attend the funeral.
Woolgrowers in the west resist offers to contract wool at low prices. They report few contracts as buyers wait for the regular buying season and for market signals. Idaho Utah and Nevada sales cited as under market value by the National Woolgrowers association. Sheepmen near Lake View are the only group with any contracted wool.
Culver January 4 The Jefferson county court drafted orders for removing the remaining county property of Madras and ratified the action and methods used to move the records from the county.
Salem dates show lawmakers delaying rural credits act implementation until a formal procuture law is enacted and the measure takes effect only after February. Officials note the act does not become effective January 7, awaiting legislative action and later details.
