Shanghai Jan 2 Premier Yuan ends Tang Shao Yis term after Tang’s surrender to rebels. Yuan may pursue continued struggle after armistice. Tang to be replaced in new government. Royalist desertions surge as northern and southern rebel forces advance toward Peking. Dowager Empress reportedly flees toward Russia.
Semi official dispatches from Peking report the Dowager Empress and the baby emperor traveling toward Zhikho on the Mongolian frontier. It is believed they intend to place themselves under Russia's protection.
President Sun in Nanking appoints Wu Ting Fang as foreign minister and Ching Tao as finance minister. The selections, described as ultra progressive, aim to strengthen ties with the United States and European nations.
Police trace dynamite caps found on the street to careless handling by workers. Six persons were injured in a rear end collision between a Glendale car and a Burbank car on the Pacific Electric Glendale line near Ivanhoe around 12 45 p.m. The Burbank trolley pole broke, leaving the car in darkness before the Glendale car could be flagged. None of the injuries were reported as serious.
In downtown Tacoma a masked robber confronted night stableman William Gordon at a livery stable before 7 PM last night. After forcing Gordon to surrender, the thief fled with 19 cents. In St Petersburg Minnesota a sleeper car wreck left ten injured when a Bangor bound passenger train derailed and burned eight coaches.
Portland papers report break ins at the offices of District Attorney Cameron and attorney EB Clark, special prosecutor for Louis Wilde. Bankbooks, cancelled checks, and lists of witnesses were taken, amid bitter recriminations as Wilde calls it a plot to undermine the case on embezzlement charges.
Seattle police keep Chinatown under tight watch after the murder of Don Wey sparks fear of a Tong war. Seven hatchetmen have been imported as authorities warn against any relaxation of vigilance.

John S Jennings a 72 year old desert prospector long known in Burns at Home San Bernardino died in a house fire near Parker Station yesterday. His charred remains were found after the flames subsided and he was believed to be the oldest prospector in the area.
J. W. Tallman, popular local druggist and school board chairman, has been very ill at his Water Street home. His wife, visiting relatives in Los Angeles, has returned after learning of his condition. He suffers stomach trouble and was taken ill around Christmas. Once considered serious, his outlook improved but he remains extremely weak and unable to sit up. Mrs. Tallman arrived from southern California to care for him.
Saginaw Mich Jan 2 Through the thickheadedness of a hackman Senior La Follette got off on the wrong train today and before he got right again newspapermen politicians and railroad men became very uncomfortable hunting for him. He was driven to the wrong depot and rode some distance before he discovered the mixup. Then he alighted and made special arrangements to reach Owosso where he speaks.
Indiana Governor Marshall proposes federal legislation to make lawyers who aid in forming trusts equally guilty as the corporations. He argues some lawyers assume client duties justify criminal participation and should be accessories before the fact for a corporation’s anti trust violation.
Charles Halliday, a Ukiah editor missing since December, told of being drugged in a San Francisco waterfront saloon and waking up near Calgary, Alberta with $450 gone. He walked most of the way home, then went to Frisco to pay his paper bills.

Chehali Washington January 2 Albert Clark a millwright was positively identified as the bandit who shot Banker Barr at Centralia. Clark worked in local mills until December 22 and came here three months ago. His parents reside in Aberdeen.
The third trial of Dr. Hyde for the Swope murder was postponed to May 25 after a state request. Hyde remains free on bond as legal proceedings proceed.
A young married man, Keyes, was killed at his Everett home when an improvised gun test device made from an old oil can exploded after he struck a match. The incident occurred today, January 2, at his residence.
