Colored porter shot in Walla Walla may die from wounds
In Walla Walla on January 1, Cunningham a colored porter at a local barber shop was shot by J E Coles a colored restaurant keeper. Cunningham was struck in the intestines by a .38 and the wound perforated the bowel in 28 places. He was operated on and doctors fear he may die. The shooting followed a soda gathering of colored people. Coles, owner of the Headlight restaurant on Alta street, was unhappy about not being invited.
